People in the know flock to this under-the-radar Bayard Street nook in Manhattan's Chinatown for their incredibly well-executed Chinese pastries. However large the menu is, the piece de resistance is without a doubt their Baked Pork Bun - leaving without acquiring one or 20 is not only a disservice to you, but may as well be a felony. Last I checked, they were under a dollar each and arrive piping hot in wax paper. These are visual stunners, featuring a fluffy white roll with a flaky golden top that browns from the glaze they douse it in. The roasted pork filling they make stands out compared to other neighborhood bakeries and dim sum halls featuring an insanely rich, thick, and flavorful stew of meat and sauce - this isn't your run of the mill char siu bao. This savory bun is one of New York’s great cheap eats.
