Wu’s Wonton King is a Cantonese gem on a rapidly evolving corner of the Lower East Side. Plant yourself under their massive outdoor tent on Rutgers Street and prepare to make major decisions about which route you want your dinner to take. Option #1 being their perfectly roasted duck which comes incredibly plated in puffy buns accompanied by hoison and scallion, option #2 being their show-stopping crispy garlic chicken which sits in a bed of fried garlic and erupts with acidic spice, and option #3 being their iconic fried Dungeness crab. However one thing is for sure, that you must start your meal with the insanity that is their wonton soup - featuring a variety of wontons of differing fillings and shapes inside a flavorful broth with the usual accoutrements - and end your meal with complimentary mango jello. Newsflash, it doesn’t have to be coronary-inducing to have an amazing meal on the Lower East Side - even on a weekend - you just have to know where to look.
